In honor of my quest to complete the Army Ten Miler this weekend, my first big race, I bring you this little graph from TheRuniverse!

And, with that said, I have to run my final two miles before my race!

Also: you’re coming to see me Saturday, right? I mean, I know it’s Howard’s Homecoming and all, but you can sweat your hair out for a few minutes, right?!

I’m on a forum with a lot of black women and it’s interesting to see the number of threads about how women’s bodies are not built for running. I am a runner so I only lurk in the threads. I don’t participate because the people who hold this view have thoroughly convinced themselves so it’s not worth the typing.

Running in general? Or Endurance/distance running? There’s a difference between the two and there’s an argument for one… the other’s just foolish. I mean, it’s not required of anyone to run or even “LIKE” running. (There are MAD people who rock the shirt that says “I love running…I love running…I love running…I HATE RUNNING!”) You don’t have to make stuff up to justify it. Jeez.

Have you heard of Black Girls Run? I usually run with them b/c their motto is to leave no woman behind – no matter how slow! : )
Its a great grouop and they’ve really provided me with a lot of motivation. Never in my life would I ever dream of becoming a runner but I really enjoy it. Especially when I get that runner’s high! Its amazing! I always start off by saying how tired I am and I will only walk/run – but once I get started – you can’t stop me!

I’m 5’7 and about 215lbs. I have NO IDEA where to start working out (legs, tummy, arms, ) and getting a healthier body. My goal is to become a police officer and I want to get into shape but I have no clue, what to eat, what to cook, how to exercise, I’m lost. Point me in the right direction PLEASE!
