Mya – the beauty who gifted the world with her double platinum self-titled album and one of my favorite songs, her “It’s All About Me” duet with Sisqo of Dru Hill – will be covering the latest issue of Women’s Running (sporting a Roxy Betty swim top and Roxy Hula shorts), telling the story of how she came to run her first marathon, the New York City Marathon.
The 34 year old beauty tells the story of how she trained for the marathon despite having torn the tendons in her ankle during her stint on Dancing with the Stars. “It was a test of my own strength and will […] I wanted to prove to myself that I was still physically healthy, and that I could do something to challenge myself.”
Mya also talks about her experience running the marathon, which took her close to 7 hours to complete. “The ﬁrst half was easy [..] After the 14th or 15th mile, things started getting tough. It was mind over matter. Every mile and a half, I would stop and stretch. My whole body was in excruciating pain.”
In the latest edition, Mya also talks about going vegetarian and exploring the vegan lifestyle, saying “There’s a stigma attached to vegetarian food. But I’ve discovered so many great dishes that I eat habitually now, because they’re delicious.”

Personally, I’m happy to see Mya embracing a different side of training, but what I reeeeeeally would love to see…. is this Mya:

(Maybe she’ll consider the Virginia Beach Running Festival and, who knows, run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon?)
