Okay. I can admit it. I love Serena.
A lot of people have “something” to say about her… but I don’t care. She’s an extremely successful athlete who kicks major butt on the court, and she’s been a major role model for me in being a fit woman of color.
Are there a lot of thin women of color out there? Yep. But I like “fit.” I like Serena.
That being said… look at what I saw out in the great wild? OMG!
What do you think? Me personally, Serena would have to be butt-naked sitting on a milk crate strumming a tennis racket like a banjo for me to criticize her… in other words, it’d take a lot for me to dislike something she does. I’own know. You?

I guess my question is “couldn’t she have been just as sexy without her butt cheeks being out?”
she didn’t need her buttcheeks out to be taken seriously!! my child might get the wrong idea about tennis.
justsayin’
I don’t think the commercial was meant to be taken seriously, to be honest. She says it at the end of the ad. I believe it was for ESPN? Can’t be sure.
I too love Serena. I think she looks gorgeous and powerful in the ad above. Now I want the game!
Go Serena! I need to borrow some of her booty though.
I love the ad, she is own for that booty and she works hard to have that body. I love it and think it was tastefully done. But I stan hard for my girl she would have to butt naked with chitlins hanging out her mouth for me to even offer a side eye.
Love Serena in this and yes those glutes are killer! Honestly i think she showed her sexy side without being trashy
Not sure what it’s an ad for (and i could live without the straight booty-shot — it’d be more classy without) but she looks beautiful, without a doubt.
whoops, okay, now the video shows up. i see the ad.
Serena looks amazing! If I could only look half as good as she does! She is an inspiration to all women! Keep up the good work Serena!
Poor try hard gamer girl tried hard, but….Serena stomped over all her. I liked it 😀
I always appreciate Serena’s physical stature – believe me – she’s one of my Fitness Icons, too, but the ad is a bit much for me. Seriously!
This is really no different that Danica Patrick’s commercials. I think Serena is awesome but a little class never hurts. Not that crazy about seeing that bodacious backside (that I would kill to have) just so out there but I will support her all the way.
I don’t like the ad. I do, however, think she’s beautiful.
Guy here…can’t take away from Serena…perfect black womans body! This ad however seems to be for E(everyone)…don’t know that i want my lil boy and girl sitting at the tv to be watching her walking around with her butt hanging out…
I think we, as women, have to continue to be careful of over sexualizing ourselves in male dominated arenas.
I love, love, love Serena, and I think she looks awesome; however the cheeks out in this commercial concerns me for two reasons 1) for how she will be viewed and publicly judged by her peers and 2) because when you become well-known/famous you become a role model for the younger and/or impressionable. I would rather not see this outfit on some young brown girl waiting in line to get in the club in mid-February.
And yes, I have this same opinion about music videos…Beyonce, Rhianna, etc…
I don’t know how I feel about the ad. I’m older so seeing her butt cheeks out doesn’t bother me. Sure there will always be somebody who’ll think, “hey, I’ll wear that.” But you can’t live your life worrying that others will take it the wrong way.
As for her figure, she’s all right. Now THAT’S a healthy body.
That was hilarious!! Black women can never win when it comes to what people have to say about our bodies, ESPECIALLY our booties, so if Serena wants to celebrate it, show if off, highlight it, she might as well, b/c people will always have something to say about it whether it’s covered or not.
I know I’m a late on this but I adore Serena and had to comment! Yes, the ad is racy, however, it celebrates the diversity of the female athlete and the hard work and effort that she’s put into being the #1 tennis player in the world. I have no problem with the confidence that she displays in knowing that not only is she a champion, but a sexy, fantasy inducing black female playing in a circuit dominated by rail thin white women. She challenges people to look at the total package rather than fragmented ideas of what women, especially heathy/black/successful women, should look/act like. In tennis, fashion, and celebrity status, Serena stays winning and I will continue supporting her efforts.
This ad made me chuckle, I’ll admit. Also, it makes me want to buy that game, but I already suck at tennis on the Wii, this can’t be better. LOL
I loved it. It was cute and funny and even though the commercial isn’t for everyone, the game still is. She is sexy and showing those curves in what is clearly a fantasy. I say “work it.” And it’s clear she’s still the best on the court. Unlike that Maria girl who was so busy lookin’ cute that she screwed her career.
Honestly, the Williams sisters make me chuckle. Remember when Venus was sporting the flesh colored booty shorts. Everytime her dress flew up, it was like she was telling all the haters to kiss her @$$. I love it when they dress sexy for matches. Go Serena! Represent for all the big booty chicks.
I like the commercial and why should she have to dress differently because she has a large behind….. There was someone else in the commercial but it was no mention of her being overly sexualized just Serena.
Oh, believe me, I take issue with her behind being in my face too. White, black, big, small…
I am more annoyed with the blond hair
I see a very fit athlete who works hard to be a positive role model. She shows that you don’t have to be twiggy to be fit. Good for her. Haters gotta hate so I hope you can all see the upside to this.
Not a fan. Regardless of what anyone says, this unfortunately is textbook sexualization and ritual subordination in advertisement. We are currently studying women in media in my women in pop culture class, and this ad is not to worship the body, it’s not designed to do anything positive but use sex as a way to sell the product. It’s not empowering, and it’s not designed to be empowering.
Love it. I think there is always this juxtaposition of empowerment and self-esteem versus the oversexualization of Black women in the media. Something must be said about her agency—her choice to display herself in a way she chooses has to be considered.
I really like that she owns her body and love the booty shots. Whenever a woman embraces her body and sensuality, I’m all aboard.
She’s great!
Sure the ad could have been done without the butt shot, but why? How many pancake Victoria Secret and other commercials do we see and nothing is said? It’s time we celebrate our physical gifts. People are literally dying to have behinds like her’s. Why the shame? I say be proud and show the world what they are missing.
She is perfect. Chocolate skin, very fit, and in tip-top condition. I will never throw shade her way! It takes a lot of extra hard work to look like that and I respect the hard work.
