Video Vault: Introducing… “Sh-t Fat Girls Say” and “Sh-t Fat People Say?”

by Erika Nicole Kendall

Consider this presented with absolutely NO comment… for now.

This video, from Kandi Ali, is just… just watch it.

The second one, from JustCallMeMrRight is also just…. watch:

Like I said… I have no comment. I know y’all do, though, so let’s hear ’em.

What’s so sad is I have said those very things. It was funny and hurtful at the same time. Like looking in somebody else’s mirror but seeing my reflection. I just started following you on FB last week. Your articles have been helping me along my journey. Thanks.

(-___- ) is all I have to say to both of these.

Antonette January 13, 2012 - 2:13 PM

Hmmm, the main problem I see is that neither of these videos is funny… at all.

*yawn*

Okay first neither was remotely funny or interesting. Second I think it says more about how both of them see themselves. Sort of “I’m going to make the “fat” (or fill in any other label) jokes before other people do it.” I don’t know with all of this “sh*t so and so say” videos where is the line drawn between authentic comedy and stereotyping bullcorn?

Kait January 13, 2012 - 2:52 PM

I guess they COULD have been funny if done properly but they were just so lame instead. Now I’m not saying fat jokes are ok but if they were done in the likes of the other shit people say videos (I’m especially thinking the vegan and yogi ones), they might have elicited some laughter because you could identify with them either personally or through someone you know.

These though…just no.

MissJoy January 13, 2012 - 3:10 PM

That was dumb. Both of them. I mean…I can’t even say anything else because I couldn’t finish them. It wasn’t funny, clever, nothing. Just dumb. They should change those videos to “Sh*t pathetic people say to get a little shine on Youtube but end up being a major #FAIL”.

😐

Tiffany January 13, 2012 - 5:41 PM

Damn could they at least make it funny?

Jaded January 13, 2012 - 5:52 PM

WTF? Not funny. Not true. And downright pointless. Really? Everyone goes to McD’s and orders the entire menu? Come on now. Why would you even make this video.

Randi January 13, 2012 - 7:32 PM

1st neither were funny. 2nd I forgot only people who are fat say those things. I’ve seen plenty of skinny people say and do all of those things so yea… HATED IT

SoFrolushes January 14, 2012 - 2:06 PM

People always assume weight is simply food related when it is not. Both of these videos get a side eye. It is as though society sees it as “skinny” folk can binge eat and that is okay whereas if you have excess weight you must cut back because everyone supposed to be underweight. Would love to see more healthy promotions of weight.

smh

They are just not funny. I got all ready to hear some funny quotes and nothing that either video presented was amusing at all. I am working to release weight that has had me down for too long, so that is where my head is. I’m working on changing my mindset, so phrases that I USED to say, or thoughts that I USED to have no longer have power over me, my health, or my weight goals. Yep – some of the phrases I heard in the videos I’ve said before, but, God help me, I won’t say them again. It sounds corny, but maybe that’s why those videos were completely without any effect for me…

Kandi January 20, 2012 - 1:19 PM

I got an email that my video was shared, I just wanted to come by and say thanks for watching. 🙂

Ramatulai February 8, 2012 - 1:23 PM

Both were an epic fail. I think that they were aiming for laughes but did not blow over so well with me. I just don’t think its right to poke fun at people who struggles with weight issues.

Horrible! These videos just made me want to go eat. If this is how society views me, then what’s the point?

kiki March 5, 2013 - 2:07 AM

to put it nicely, FORGET society. this journey is all about you!

Ceej March 4, 2013 - 9:44 PM

Humiliation and shame are not effective forms of motivation, imho.

Ceej March 4, 2013 - 9:55 PM

they both totally miss the point of the shit X people say videos. you are supposed to be pointing out how ignorant X people are, how the things they say are hurtful micro-aggressions against an oppressed group. instead, those two videos attempt to show an oppressed group how they are oppressing themselves by relying on the stereotypes that fat people are lazy and gluttonous, and therefore, deserve our ire.

kiki March 5, 2013 - 2:05 AM

reminds me of the straw that broke the camels back for me with one of my facebook friends. she constantly made self-deprecating comments, the one day she decides to include others with her. something about how her friends got her to break her cardinal rule of not eating with other “big girls” in public because they just looked like cows grazing. smh…deleted. makes me wonder how her obvious self-esteem issues affects her children, especially her daughter.
