Sponsored: What to Do When Your Phone Gets More of a Workout Than You Do

One of the most aggravating things about my currently-over-sized phone is how difficult it is to keep it contained during workouts.

I could stuff it in my pocket during a run, but then I have to say goodbye to wired headphones… and I love my wired headphones. I could try to find an armband to keep it put away, but guess what? Depending on what I’m doing during that run, I might have to say goodbye to my favorite headphones then, too, because the cord can get in the way. Not only that, but even if I got an extra-durable, brick-like case for my phone, it wouldn’t be able to fit in either my pocket or an armband. And, quite honestly, not everyone will be able to find an armband that fits. All of my armbands that I rocked pre-pregnancy certainly don’t fit now, with my post-pregnancy weight to contend with so closely after giving birth.

Even more frustrating, is the thought that I’d have to keep my phone at home if I don’t want to run the risk of damaging the device I paid several hundred dollars for. I’m a parent – the thought of my phone not being attached to my hip (or hand, for that matter) is mind-boggling to me.

I’ve been on the receiving end of a cracked screen. So, when I heard about Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4, I didn’t jump at it–I’m not dropping my phone!– but I was certainly eager to get into it.

Gorilla Glass is, quite simply, a cover glass that improves protection of your phone and its screen against the constant drops that seem to plague those of us who hit the pavement. This is New York – “The Concrete Jungle?” Well, trust me – that concrete is no joke. Combine that with a jogging stroller and a 9-year old with a penchant for randomly grabbing my hand when she’s feeling lovey-dovey, and you’ve got a situation on your hands. Literally.

Gorilla Glass 4 focuses on improving damage resistance against sharp contact–a drop on asphalt, concrete, and other rough surfaces. I’ve read that, in laboratory tests, the latest edition of Gorilla Glass survives up to 80% of the time when dropped from 3 feet high, and was up to 2x tougher than competitive glass designs, so I do believe the product can help dramatically reduce the damage for the constant onslaught of drops we experience in the midst of being active.

Take a look at one of my favorite jogging interval routine – with intervals determined by heart rate, not by merely time – see how often you’ve got to kick it up a notch? These are prime opportunities where we drop our phones, and this is where Gorilla Glass shows its value!

workout to get you moving!

(Side note – can’t run yet? That’s fine – whatever you can do that gets your heart rate going? Do that!)

See that – you get so into the routine that you sometimes even forget what you’re carrying on you, let alone that you need to ensure that it’s tucked away securely…why not get something tough to help you keep it safe?
